Where to apply
If you are a resident of Luxembourg City:
All applications and declarations required to obtain Luxembourgish nationality must be submitted to the Bierger-Center in Luxembourg City.
If you reside elsewhere within the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg:
All applications and declarations required to obtain Luxembourgish nationality must be submitted to the municipal office for your usual place of residence.
If you live abroad:
The civil registrar of the City of Luxembourg has the authority to receive all applications and declarations needed to reclaim Luxembourgish nationality or to opt for Luxembourgish nationality.
Reclamation of Luxembourgish nationality (open to descendants of a person who held Luxembourgish nationality on 1 January 1900):
Due to the pandemic, the second step of reclaiming Luxembourgish nationality (Article 89), which involves appearing before the civil registrar of the City to sign the declaration, has been extended to 31 December 2021.
How to proceed
To apply for Luxembourgish nationality, you must appear in person before the civil registrar of Luxembourg City and submit all of the documents required by law.
